Notes: 1. Rare book. 2. Title in ms. on spine, in an early hand. In ms. on fly-leaf (possibly in the same hand): "Boyle 1670." Title also appears in typescript on leaf pasted into front of vol.: "Curious mathematical forms, 1670, by Robert Boyle." 3. Comprises geometric drawings and engravings of concentric circles, triangles, and polygons, perhaps representing the capabilities of a mechanical drawing instrument. Cf. Turner, Anthony, Early scientific instruments, Europe 1400-1800, p. 154. 4. Possibly executed by Robert Boyle or a craftsman in his employ, or assembled as a collection by Boyle. Cf. Turner, Anthony, p. 172. 5. One of the engravings contains names of artist and engraver, as well as date: "Guido Ren pinxit, Gerard Valck fecit et exudit 1677." 6. The drawings and engravings, some colored by hand, are variously mounted or inserted into an old vellum book containing 73 blank leaves. The notation "Book V. 1784. March 24" (corrected to March "11") appears in ms. at bottom of front free endpaper. - Date cataloged: November 19, 1998.
